Do you know how much time you have to devote to Search Engine Optimization? [There’s a hint of sarcasm there] Actually, I tried to compile a list of fast fixes that will help you climb the Google or Yahoo Rankings a little higher.
1. Increase the number of search engines in which you are listed. There are a plethora of them available, and there are also several free services that might assist you in being listed. Alternatively, set aside some time to do it yourself. This free search engine submission platform allows you to cycle through the top 100 search engines and submit your site.
2. Increase the number of directories in which you are listed. There are a lot of them out there, once again. Look for guides with a higher PageRank.
3. Check your links and clean up your website. You want the bots to have an easy time navigating your site. Use W3c.org’s tools and have a real human look them over as well.
4. Increase the number of links to your website. Please make sure they’re relevant and, at the very least, have the same PageRank as you.
5. Use meaningful and keyword-rich filenames for your pages. By naming your page new page 1.html, you’re squandering a chance to improve your SEO. Keep the keywords flowing by giving them titles that characterize the content.
6. Make sure your title tags are correct. You have 90-100 characters in the title, so use them wisely. We know that Google looks at them and that many other search engines do.
7. Make sure your ALT tags are correct. Images are invisible to search bots. Please make sure all of your pictures contain ALT tags and are descriptive and keyword-rich.
8. Replace your URL (anchor) tags with new ones. Anchor tags (the text between the HTTP: and /tags) help to emphasize your site’s message and critical terms.
9. Make a few forum posts and include your website in your signature. One-way connections are ideal for use in forums, and you can also assist someone else at the same time.
10. Create a text-based sitemap and include it on your website. Many navigational elements, including flash, forms, java, and javascript, are incomprehensible to spiders. Creating a text-based sitemap provides a mechanism for bots to navigate the site.
